“Could you please listen to your mother just for once?!”

A boy dragged his little feet faster, pretending that he didn’t listen to his mother’s voice that went slightly higher from her previous yell. Things got worsen and he didn’t really care; the faster he walked, the closer he felt his mother’s presence behind him.

“Sho, listen!”
The gentle hand that used to caress his hair every night before he offs to sleep grabbed his wrist firmly and refused to be released.

“I won’t until you listen to me!”

Both of them sure heard that loud sound of thud; Sho saw his mother landed quite hard on the sidewalk. Quite shocked to know that he had accidentally pushed her but his pride never let him apologizes to what he had done.

“Fine, if it’s that what you want!”

It’s not completely his fault, Sho thought. The quarrel was mostly triggered by his mom and he shouldn’t be the one who says sorry first regarding to that incident.

“You don’t need Mommy anymore, so you can go home by yourself.”

A threat came out and it’s not a new thing to hear though. His little marble eyes stared back sharply to his mother’s, as if he tried to tell “Go on, dare me!” silently. She gaped at her 5 years old son’s answer, never expected that he could be incredibly stubborn. The silence between the quarreling mother and son were suddenly broken by the sound of bus’ brake near them. As the bus door opened, Sho’s mother stepped inside and left him dumbfounded alone on the stop.

“Go on. You can go home by yourself, right?”

So it’s not a mere threat and he knows well that his mom is not a kind of person who would pull back what she had said. Deep down in his heart Sho wanted to run back to his mother and hug him again, but it’s a pity since the anger controlled his mind better that time.

“Sho! Sho, wai-”

It’s his mother turn to be astonished then, since the boy decided to avert her gaze madly as the bus door closed and continued to walk home alone.

As summer came, the weather started to get hotter that day. Sho continuously walked in anger, kicked a little things here and there across the sidewalk while murmuring some bad words about his mother; his little steps had unconsciously turned into irritated-stomps.

He clearly remembers what his mother said that it takes about twelve minutes by bus to the last stop and another five minutes of walking needed to go home. He also knows well that forty five minutes will be needed if someone insists to go to his house on foot and it must be damn tiring. Bus would surely come again but it needs another hour to wait and it’s kind of impossible for Sho to do it patiently alone, so he decided to take the second option no matter how sucks was that just to keep his pride up and prove to his mom that he’s not a crybaby…

Until Sho heard sound of footsteps following behind him.

As the sound went closer to his direction, he ran with all his might in panic. Is this a punishment for being a naughty kid? Sho thought about for so many times while keep running and did his best not to cry at once. He didn’t dare to look at his back until he felt warm little fingers entwined with his, squeezing Sho’s hands lightly.

Sho saw another pair of sleepy eyes begged on him. The owner of those warm fingers seemed a bit older than him yet he looked so lost and poor, judged from the puffy eyes and runny nose the boy got on his face.

“I got lost and I don’t know how to find my mommy back.”

And it’s your own problem, Sho thought. He had to go home as soon as he could and not a right time to look at the other thing, so he released himself from the boy’s grip and stubbornly continued to walk like he couldn’t care less about him.

“Please don’t leave me alone…”

He tugged him once again, Sho let out a deep sigh as the boy started to sob in silent. He really had no choice but to help.

“So how could you get lost?”
“We were on our way home. Mommy left his wallet on Oba-chan’s house and she told me to wait for her on the bus stop for a while but I decided to walk around and…”

Oh no, he cried again.

“Ssssh…don’t worry, I’ll help you! We’ll find your mommy back!”
“Will we?”
“Of course! So stop crying now and let’s find that bus stop together!”

Sho did his best to courage the boy and wiped his tears. Glad to know that he started to smile again as Sho held his hand tightly and guided the boy to find his beloved mother.

“Anyway, you haven’t told me your name! I’m Satoshi.”
“You can call me Sho.”
“Sho…Sho-chan! What a nice name.”
“Mommy said that she named me after a famous novelist, Shibata Sho. She hopes that I can be as great as him in the future.”
“Ah…I don’t get it.”

Well, there’s no use to explain more about his name to this a-bit-airheaded-boy. They should find Satoshi’s mother quickly so he would be able to go home as soon as possible since the sun was already high.

“Do you remember which bus stop your mom told you to wait?”
“Tell me, which one?”
“I…I don’t know.”

What an unexpected dead-end.

“So how we can find her if you don’t even remember about the place now?!”

Satoshi started to cry louder as he went mad and yelled impatiently.

“All that I could remember is a big dog-statue near the station and the bus stop!”

Wait. Did he just say a big dog-statue? Sho felt that he used to see that kind of statue every time he went to school by bus together with his mother. A big dog-statue and it’s located near to the station and the bus stop. It must be…

“Shibuya! It’s Shibuya bus stop! Let’s go!”

Sho immediately dragged Satoshi along to run with him. The other one was still confused with Sho’s sudden reaction as he tripped with his own feet once he grabbed his hand and dashed toward an unknown direction yet he knew that he could trust him with all his heart.

He never stops looking with a sweet smile on his lips at the little boy who’s running with all his might in front of him. As the boy’s little steps went faster and far enough from his sight, Sho suddenly got panicked to catch up with him until he felt warm fingers entwined with his, just like trying to calm him down.

“He’s not a baby boy anymore, Sho. Just let him have some fun alone, won’t you?”

Sho couldn’t help to feel at ease once his lover gave him a reassuring smile and kiss him chastely on his lips. As he squeezed back to his lover’s hands, Sho smiled widely and waved back to the little boy whom just did the same few minutes earlier.

“Now here we are. Shibuya bus stop.”
“What a sacred-place, eh?”

Both Sho and his lover laughed at the memories they had shared on that place. Especially the moment they met for the first time in one sunny day, twenty six years ago.

“I don’t believe that I’m married to a crybaby whom got lost from Shibuya bus stop right now.”

This was such a delightful read! To think of Yama meeting as kids with Sho being such a grumpy tyke and Satoshi crying his adorable little heart out (awww!). <333

Sho and his Mama~! LOL! All the interesting stories that can be written out of that dynamics. XD

I can totally imagine Sho taking control at such a young age. He's really just wired to lead like that, ne~

And that last scene showing them as adults with a little boy of their own is such a perfect way to wrap it all up! Sho growing into a worry-wart and Satoshi giving him support this time around. Just lovely~! Thank you for sharing! <333
